Personal growth is a massive part of being human. We are always growing and evolving as people and beings. So why is it that people have such a hard time doing so?. I’m willing to bet you’ve set a new year’s resolution before and haven’t hit it, now why is that?. Your starting foundation wasn’t good enough. Well what foundation do I need to be successful at hitting goals? HABITS!!.
You might be thinking habits? seriously? That’s the big advice but think about it for a second. Every year you say you’re going to go to the gym to get in shape, even though you know that you haven’t been to the gym in years. You can’t expect to lose 10 pounds in a month because you haven’t even worked out or learned to workout before. You’re trying to run before you can even crawl and that leads to disappointment because now your mind doesn’t trust that you will do what you are telling it you will do. How do we fix this? We will use snowball habits. which are small things people can do everyday that help them build trust with themselves so that they can take on the trials and tribulations of everyday life with ease.
Make Your Bed
You over there….. Yes you! Make your bed. In all seriousness making your bed every morning is one of the best small habits you can have. You might be thinking to yourself right now “Come on, that’s so easy” actually it is not because 59% of you do not do this small thing. now you’re probably thinking so it’s not a big deal. Well I’m sorry to burst your bubble but a study showed that 71% of people who make their bed in the morning said that they were happy, whereas 62% of people who said they do not make their bed also said they were unhappy. you might be thinking how is this possible. I think the military explains this best, as you’re starting your day off with an easy habit. So what does this mean, that every morning your bed needs to be made, so that every day when you come home no matter how bad your day was. you can always come home to a nice warm bed. Which was your first success of the day.
Exercise
Now that you’ve woken up, made your bed and are ready to conquer your day. do a small 10 minute exercise before you grab that coffee or food. Studies show there is a direct correlation between working out on an empty stomach with fat burn and muscle gain. it doesn’t need to be anything crazy just get your heart rate up for 10-15 minutes. This small thing of doing exercise first thing before food will explode results and help reduce stress. Allowing you to clear your mind before you have to be bombarded by work, social media and all other things.
Get Sunlight
Get Sunlight as early as possible even if that means doing your morning exercise outside. sunlight on the skin is very therapeutic and helps release endorphins in your brain that make you feel good and be productive. Remember that you are more likely to be productive when you are happy. If you still need convincing that this is a good idea, think of the last time it was a gloomy and damp rainy day. What does it make you want to do? Maybe curl up in a blanket? Take a nap?. Just keep in mind that the lack of sunlight might be why you are feeling this way.
Building small habits like these can unlock changes within your brain and make you happier and more productive so you can keep the important things in your life moving with less stress and drain. So try these out and don’t be afraid to leave a comment below how they worked for you.
