Learning vs. School: What’s the Real Deal?

Learning vs. School: What’s the Real Deal?

Is traditional school really dying with the amount of information one can receive in a matter of seconds? Do companies really care anymore?. Now before everyone comes for my head with pitchforks and fire. Let’s look at some statistics that aren’t posted by universities and colleges. Zip Recruiter has announced only 14.5% of job listings on their site require a degree in 2023. ONLY 14.5%!! which is down 3.5% from 2022. so is the college degree really dead. Yes it is. now let me tell you why.

Over the last 2 years companies have prioritized skills over degrees and they found that degree free people leave jobs way less and that 40% of the “educated graduates” aren’t even employed to a job in the industry or job that they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and 4 to 5 years of their life to get. On top of all this, only 40% of people who go to college graduate in 4 years. Those are not good statistics. If you have a degree and you are working in the profession that you went to school for then congrats that’s incredible for you.

Let me put it to you this way if your child told you they wanted to buy a piece of paper for 150k that they call a degree. Imagine they work their tail off for 4 years studying every night to finally graduate and get beat by someone who has a high school diploma, spent 6 months self learning and now has 3.5 years of experience and no debt. you would tell them that is “irresponsible”. Yet parents push their kids to universities and colleges and it takes on average 10-20 years or longer to pay off their loans which will hold them back in their lives.

I think that education is good. I mean I’m building a whole blog on learning new things. I just believe that the education system is seriously broken and until it is fixed i can’t reject this idea enough. The great thing about the digital world is we have an enhanced ability to consume information and gain certifications that will allow us to get work. I am not telling people that we need to just skip school and expect to get hired. I’m saying that a school is only a place that can provide you with information and give you a piece of paper, it cannot give you real experience. If the job you want doesn’t legally require you to have a degree i believe and the stats believe it is financially reckless to start a degree. Especially when 70% of people switch degrees because they realize they don’t like what they are studying, which is a waste of $30,000 or more.

If you want to learn something please do your research and attempt to do it without a degree and figure out if you actually enjoy it before spending all that money. if you found any value from this please like.

Thank You
